JACOB B. UKELES, Ph.D. is the President of Ukeles Associates Inc.

Jack, the founder of UAI, has overall responsibility for directing the firm. In addition he leads UAI's management practice and planning practice. For the past eight years, he has represented UAI as senior organizational development consultant to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC).

Before establishing UAI in 1986, he served in the number two position at New York's Jewish Federation. In the seventies, he was an active participant in the successful effort to restore New York City's Management Advisory Board. He also served as Chair of the NYC Rent Guidelines Board. In the sixties he was the Deputy Director for Comprehensive Planning in the New York City Planning Department.

UAI_JBU_book_cover.jpgAuthor and educator, Jack was founding Chair of the Graduate Department of Urban Policy of the New School for Social Research, and has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University. He is the author of Doing More with Less: Turning Public Management Around, and numerous reports and articles. He was a Fulbright Fellow in India, and earned his Master's in City Planning and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

He is married to artist Mierle Laderman Ukeles and is the father of three and grandfather of five.
